NSAIDs are medications for mild to moderate Pain. They work by decreasing levels of inflammation at the site of the tissue injury. Many persons or patients are familiar with over-the-counter ibuprofen such as Advil, Motrin and Nuprin. Aleve is one of the more recent over-the-counter medications that contains naproxen sodium and have 8 to 12 hour dosing. Some NSAID's are available in injection form. Some examples of prescription NSAID's are; Clinoril, Feldene, Indocin, Naprosyn, etc. Some may cause gastric side effects.The list below are some of the more common NSAID's that you should recognize.
The original NSAID. Most commonly used for mild to moderate Pain. Non-narcotic.
For mild to moderate Pain. No inflammatory effects.
For mild to moderate Pain. No inflammatory effects. May irritate stomach. Like Ketoprofen and Ibuprofen, may inhibit the substances that cause inflammation.
For mild to moderate Pain. No inflammatory effects. Has been proven toxic to liver.
